This article appeared in The Chicago Tribune today. Although it's an unfortunate commentary on the state of the American economy, it happens to be good news for Route 66 and, in my opinion, great incentive for bringing families closer together . Let's bring back the family driving vacation!The snow has stopped, but if the deep slush on the roads freezes overnight, I'm betting on another day of no Afton Station. I probably won't even be able to get out of my driveway. However, I'm still hopeful.

I know that Ken and I are driving to Florida for our annual "vegecation" rather than flying this year. It's not so much out of economic necessity as now that I'm not working, I don't have to worry about vacation days. We can take a little more time to enjoy the journey as much as the destination! Saving money is icing on the cake.
