As my regular readers know, I take a lot of pictures of sunrises. I love to document the rising of the sun. However, this photo surpasses by a long shot anything I've ever photographed! These are the three British guys who visited Afton Station last week as they crossed America on their motorcycles, a ride in support of a hospice in England which cared for members of their families. They were great people and it's good to see that they've made it to Monument Valley. They say that they woke up early specifically to watch the sun rising over the rock formations. Good work, fellows!
I'm the owner of Afton Station, in Afton Oklahoma, a small private Route 66 memorabilia and antique car museum housed in a restored filling station. We are visited daily by both domestic and foreign travelers who are exploring the charms of old Route 66. Their stories will be told here (and maybe a little bit of other stuff, too.) Since I live 80 miles from Afton Station, a straight shot on Route 66, you'll probably hear a lot about the Mother Road, too.
